Walther RM8 Varmint UC - Tested at DAI Leisure's 25 yard range.
I have seen many reviews that I could only class as a "Marmite, type of experience" for this gun, you'll either love or hate it, I wanted to see for myself if it was something to consider for the environment that I shoot in.
I am fortunate to have access and permissions to some land so I come into contact with many pest species that impact both the environment/flora and fauna.
I feel the Walther RM8 Varmint UC is a cracking rifle that's well suited for these types of environment as I find that I am either leaning on a bail of hay or using a bipod/tripod or fencing to rest on whilst shooting my quarry.
There has long been a debate over what is better, a beautifully grained wooden stock or synthetics and for the environment and practicality that I use I am happy to stick with synthetics, this would most likely be a personal preference but I find that the moulded stock stands up to the rough and tumble of manoeuvring around a farm yard, not to mention the standing up to even the harshest weather conditions.
Shouldering the RM8 feels quite solid weighing in at approximately 8.5lbs, Give or take for mods, scope, mounts etc.
The thumb-hole configuration feels completely natural and helps maintain balance when shouldering also the swirling stipple pattern as opposed to the normal chequering helps keep your hand firmly on the grip and forend.
The barrel is free floating, with a threaded, ported muzzle brake, 8-shot rotary magazine which I found to index without error although had an occasional grind from what I assume was a damaged or flared pellet, a manual safety switch, adjustable trigger travel, 200cc buddy bottle, clear manometer, Picatinny style accessory rail, dovetail scope rail, and bolt action cycling.
The Picatinny accessory rail which is part of the moulding on the underside of the stock, Could take a bipod, laser or torch, which could prove invaluable if using The RM8 for hunting.
Filling the Walther RM8 is done via the supplied probe adaptor which is pretty much standard now days, The 200cc buddy bottle will receive around 232 bar giving approximately 180 shots in .22 and 160 in .177.
Whether your looking at getting into Air-gunning or fancy an upgrade to your existing gun, I found it to be great for the price, buying one from DAI will allow you use of their indoor range with lanes catering for pistol and 25 yards rifle range perfect for those wet and windy lazy days or zeroing in your scope.
